National Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated every year in India on April 24 to commemorate the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, which gave constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj system in India.
In honour of National Panchayati Raj Day, five students from the school—Divya, Raman, Pratishtha Lovejot and Gurpreet, —visited the nearby village of Saifabad and spoke with Mrs. Asha Rani, the area's sarpanch, and asked her a few questions about how Panchayati Raj functions. When Divya inquired about the Panchayati Raj's sources of money, she responded that the local Sarpanch receives 10,000 rupees per month to support the operations of the village panchayat. Raman then inquired about the issues facing Panchayati Raj.She stated that they occasionally experience management and financial issues. The state government's financial support for Panchayati Raj was questioned by Pratishtha of class 10B.She said that whenever a new project is introduced in the community, the administration is made aware of the entire planning and process, and they are awarded grants based on the project's costs. How long will selection take if the panchayat is dissolved? wondered Gurpreet of 10 C. She stated that it would take 6 months to 2 years and that district administration would be in charge at that time. When Lovejot inquired about the tenure, the woman responded that it is 5 years . The replies were extremely well delivered by Mrs. Asha Sarpanch of Saifabad. Following this visit, the students felt inspired.
Principal ,Dr Yogesh Gambhir appreciated the initiative taken by the students to visit nearby villages and meet with the Sarpanch to gain knowledge about the functioning of the Panchayati Raj system. He further added that such first-hand experience will help them understand the importance of local governance and community participation in decision-making. It can also encourage them to participate in community development activities and contribute to the betterment of their society.
